Detroit Toledo & Ironton
EMD SD38's
The DT&I Railroad (better known as Henry Ford's railroad), can have it's history traced back to the Iron Railway which was incorporated in 1849. The Iron Railway hauled mineral and agricultural products from Lawrence County Ohio, to the Ohio city of Ironton.
Henry Ford purchased the DT&I in the Summer of 1920 after the railroad had gone through many changes, including it's last bankruptcy of 1908. And this begins the DT&I's incredible comeback to railway life.
Henry Ford reworked everything about the railroad, and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in restructuring efforts. Ford brought the DT&I back to life before selling it after 9 years of ownership to the Penn Road Corporation.
The DT&I was dieselized in 1955, and by the late 60's we see the DT&I EMD SD38's appear on the rails of the DT&I road.
The DT&I purchased only 5 SD38 locomotives, and the 3D-Perfection Models SD38 DT&I package includes all 5 of these locomotives.
